Art Work on Wooden Musical Instruments
Ray Istre, Visual Artist and Musician
The art work shown is applied in a subtle manner which is perfectly suited for musical instruments with a wooden soundboard. Here, artistic quality compliments the demands of the luthier. This early piece was an example of fine art on wood for a hammered dulcimer.
My name is Ray Istre. I have done art work for 40 of my 50 years. I appreciate fine quality in both art and music. My goal is to give you, the luthier, more control over the thickness of the soundboard topcoat, while providing nuanced art work that compliments natural wood.
The sound quality of the musical instrument is your domain. As a guitar player, I appreciate that. My artistic application requires a very thin, even layer of fine art quality pigment and graphite. The thin layering may have a slight transparent effect where the wood grain shows through.
I do fine art work without getting in the way of yours.
Contact me with artistic ideas for your guitar. We can work together to create something that is sure to impress your clientel. I will do custom works of art or repeat designs for a series. Consider your name or logo in this unique, artistic style.
